Argentine Lucas Moreno pulls out of Dakar Rally
Argentine pilot Lucas Moreno, from the Team Palau Kawasaki, suffered a severe accident during the fifth stage of the Dakar Rally 2011 in the race covering the road from Calama to Iquique, Chile, and had to retire from the competition.
The Kawasaki 132 bike got stuck with the desert’s sand and Moreno fell. He was immediately taken to the Salvador Allende de Calama Hospital where doctors reported that he dislocated his left femur.
Moreno, the youngest pilot in the competition and one of the best Argentines in the general classification of the competition, suffered the same accident two years ago during the World Cup held in Portugal.
Another bike pilot who had to pull out of the competition was French Olivier Pain (Yamaha) who fell in the 231 kilometre and broke his wrist. The French was in the fourth position.
