Marcos Patronelli pulls out of Dakar Rally
Argentina''s Marcos Patronelli drinks water from his Quad Yamaha before the symbolic start of the Dakar 2011 Rally in downtown Buenos Aires.
Last year’s Argentine quad champion Marcos Patronelli decided to pull out of the Dakar Rally after he had a new accident which complicated his recovery from a fibula fracture he suffered while he was training in November.
“I’m playing with the death. I’m being warned and I don’t want to operate my knee, but it’s not in good shape,” the pilot told the press.
Patronelli added “I’ve never suffered so much in a small period of time, and I almost killed myself today. When things are going wrong, you have to stop.”
The pilot decided to retire from the competition after he knocked his kneecap.
A month ago, Patronelli suffered an accident in which he fractured his fibulas, his right collarbone and injured an ankle’s ligament.
