Merval on the rise while Bovespa edges up
The panel of leading stocks increased 2.97 percent to 3,628.48 points on the first trading session of the year.
Meanwhile, Argentina's country-risk rose 2.06 percent to 496 basis points in the JP Morgan EMBI index.
The US currency traded for $4.010/$3.97 pesos, remained unchanged compared to the previous closing price in the main banks and foreign exchange houses in Buenos Aires downtown.
The main indicator of the Brazilian stock market's average performance climbed 0.95 percent to 69,962.32 points.
Meanwhile, the US dollar fell 0.8 percent to R$1.653 on the local spot market.
