'I go back home with my head held high,' Lula says
Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Before meeting with union leaders in his home in Sao Bernardo do Campo, in the outskirts of Sao Paulo, former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva assured that he is returning to his hometown “with his head held high.”
“I go back home with my head up high, with a feeling of accomplishment. I needed to prove that a metalworker was more capable of running than the elite,” he said.
After attending the inauguration of Dilma Rousseff in Brasilia, the former head of state returned to the apartment in which he lived before becoming the president of Brazil eight years ago.
“You should love Dilma the way you loved me,” he said on stage while addressing the crowd in his hometown.
Mr. Da Silva announced that he would take a three-week vacation in order to “put things back into place” and define his political future in Brazil, as well as other activities in Latin America and Africa.
