‘Dilma understood the reasons why CFK couldn’t come,’ Timerman assures

Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman took part of the swearing in ceremony of newly Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and said that the Head of State sent a message to President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

After the ceremony, Timerman said Dilma “knows about the friendship with Cristina and told me there will be many opportunities to meet and continue with the dialogue.”

In regards to a future visit of Dilma to the Argentina in her first presidential trip, the minister assured that he will meet with his Brazilian counterpart, Antonio Patriota, on Sunday and that “there are many chances that it occurs.”

“I congratulated Dilma and she understood the reasons why Cristina couldn’t come and is aware of the friendship between them,” Timerman told the press.

The minister added that Dilma “sends Cristina her love and said she understood perfectly the hard moment she is living.”

Timerman said that during his encounter with Patriota they will discuss “the nuclear development, the Mercosur issue and the designation of the secretary-general of the Unasur. There are issues we were working on with (former Foreign Minister) Celso Amorim and we will continue with the same framework.”

He also had “interesting conversations” with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Uruguayan President José Mujica.

“With Hillary we spoke about Latin America’s situation, I told her about the importance of the US watching the region, that there has to be a presence in the region to encourage development in our countries,” the minister said.

Timerman added that he talked with Mujica about the importance of “taking advantage of the economic situation to apply resources in human developments and let the science work in ecologic issues.”
