Tension in Constitución train station after 8-hour strike
Passengers from the ex Roca railway line caused serious incidents at the Constitución train station as a result of the protest that was being carried out by a group of outsourced employees.
Enfuriated passengers began throwing stones against one of the entrances to the cental hall of the station.
After the protest, which prevented passengers from using the transportation service, had lasted over six hours, people began throwing stones and sticks to show their rejection of the measure. Members of the Federal Police were blocking off the entrances at the station.
Meanwhile, representatives for the outsourced employees from the ex Roca railway line were holding a meeting with officials from the Labour Ministry in order to try and solve the problem.
The employees’ Sawyer, Gustavo Mendieta, said that the meeting had reached a recess.
“The government maintains a steady position with respect to certain issues, such as that of salaries or the integration of outsourced employees to the permanent base, along with the integration of those employees that have been fired,” he said.
He added that sources from the national government had told him that there “isn’t much that can be done” because the Transport Secretariat “is being managed by the La Fraternidad union,” linked to the incidents that led to the murder of workers’ party member Mariano Ferreyra.
Sources confirmed that the ex Roca line would not function until Friday.
