Energy problems to ease 'when power consumption lowers,' electricity companies say

After persistent electricity cuts in different parts of the city and the Greater Buenos Aires area, electricity companies Edenor and Edesur have put the problems down to the intense heat wave in the city.

The past two days the electricity had cut off in different parts of the city, (including Flores, Boedo, Retiro, Palermo and Caballito) and several Greater Buenos Aires areas (Avellaneda, San Fernando, Lomas de Zamora, and Morón) leaving the neighbourhoods without power for a number of hours.

However, they have also stated that the problems "should start to lessen, as the city’s workforce will be taking a break for the holidays". The company has estimated that the lowered figure of buildings being in use in the city will help to reduce consumption. They have also suggested that the expected rains of this evening and the temperature decrease could factor in the reduction.

“We are experiencing an intense wave of heat currently, and that has obviously contributed to an increase in the demand for power,” explained Alberto Lippi, an employee of the company. He went on to say that the “power system has not collapsed totally”.
