Brazilian picked as 2010's 'best news agency photographer' by Time magazine
Time magazine picked Brazilian photographer Mauricio Lima as best news agency photojournalist due to his “outstanding coverage” of the war in Afghanistan.
Over the course of four weeks, Mr. Lima accompanied US marines throughout the Afghan province of Helmand. He also travelled along the country by himself and while staying in Kabul he snapped several impressive photographs of the predicament that the military forces and civilians living there have to go through every day.
Currently based in Sao Paulo, Mr. Lima works for the AFP news agency and has travelled across Latin America, Iraq and the Middle East. It was his coverage of the Afghan conflict, however, that got him the recognition.
“Out of the millions of photographers working for different news agencies this year, it’s Mauricio Lima’s work, from AFP, that can really be considered outstanding,” Time magazine said.
