Bilardo assures ‘there’s no turning back’ in his relationship with Maradona
Argentina’s national football team’s technical secretary Carlos Bilardo answered to sports-icon Diego Maradona’s accusations and assured he is a “chicken” and added that his relationship with the ex coach of the national team “has no turning back.”
“I’ll never blast Diego, because I don’t feel like I have to. But a week ago I’ve broken any ties. There’s no turning back, there’s no way back,” Bilardo continued during his radio programme in La Red.
In an interview published by a local newspaper, Bilardo had been one of Maradona’s targets. The ex coach said Bilardo “betrays people,” that he considers him a “statue,” and assured that “he does not represent Argentina’s football.”
Bilardo insisted that he had decided not to say “many things” because he respected Maradona’s daughters, but repeated that in 1985 he had to fight with “the entire country” to make the sports-icon the captain of the team that won the World Cup in Mexico a year later.
The technical secretary of the national team assured that he has defended Maradona many times and even criticized him by saying that “he did not play in Barcelona and when he played in Napoli he was not the champion in Europe.”
Besides been his coach in the national team, Bilardo coached Maradona in Boca Juniors and at the Spanish Sevilla.
