Area must be emptied due to court order
Thursday, December 16, 2010Tension in Villa Lugano evacuation as squatters resist police enforcement
Fierce security measures have been taken as police forces have been deployed out to evacuate the occupied land owned by the Club Albariño, in the Villa Lugano neighbourhood.
By order of the National Justice, the landsite in the Lugano area must be emptied.
Protestors who've been staying on the land since the early hours of Monday morning are being cleared out, but are putting up a fight.
The site, which adjoins the Ciudad Oculta area just between the crossing of Santander and Argentina Avenues, has been closed off to be cleared. The Federal Police are keeping a close watch on the area with unit of fierce patrols.
Resistance is strong, as it was with the evacuations of Villa Soldati, in that occupants have been putting up a front by fighting off police with stones and sticks, in the attempt to try to motion them out.
Last Monday an operation involving about fifty people had been put into place, in the midst of the tension generated by the takeover of the Indo-Americano Park in Villa Soldati. The takeover of the abandoned land plots has extended to other parts of the capital and suburbs.
After the decision made by the national and city governments, the tensions had begun to minimize and previously occupied sites were consequently abandoned.
However, due to the demands made by the neighbours of Lugano, the Club Albariño land occupation continues.
