Aldo Ferrer appointed as Ambassador in France
Wednesday, December 15, 2010Senate stalls debate over military appointments
The pro-government sector in the Senate stalled the debate over additional military appointments, which was scheduled for next week, because the opposition refused to include the military appointment of a general from the Army in question.
General Céstar Milani's appointment was not considered during the session due to the questioning he received over his participation in the "carapintada" military uprising attempt of Holy Week, 1987.
Sources from the pro-government bloc said that Miguel Ángel Pichetto had instructions from Government House to approve the pliego and that is why the 320 appointments were not discussed.
• Aldo Ferrer
The Senate approved the designation of economist Aldo Ferrer as Ambassador in France with 49 votes in favour.
However, the Federal Peronism bloc, the Frente Cívico and the PJ-La Pampa voted against, saying that Ferrer was Economy Minister under the de facto governments of Roberto Levingston and Alejandro Lanusse.
• Ricardo Jaime
The UCR senators' bloc failed in its intent to debate a bill for the creation of an Investigative Committee for the Ricardo Jaime case. Jaime, ex Transport Secretary, is involved in a corruption scandal.
