After the meeting held with Paris Club authorities, Economy Minister Amado Boudou said that the negotiation process would have two phases: the first will last through the third week of January and is conciliatory (payment amounts to be defined); the second is to formulate payment plans and has no closing date. Boudou said that beginning negotiations to cancel debt in default since 2001 "is the last great problem that is left to be solved in our country."
Economy Minister Amado Boudou and Finance Secretary Hernán Lorenzino held the meeting with the president of the Paris Club, Ramón Fernández, in the organization's headquarters at the French Economy Ministry in Bercy neighborhood.
The minister arrived in Paris over the weekend to initiate the negotiations, which aim to determine the amount of debt Argentina has to pay to the Paris Club.
