Judge rules in favour of repressors, cites ‘2x1’ supreme court ruling

La Plata Federal Judge Alejandro Daniel Esmoris ruled in favour of releasing two repressors serving sentences for crimes against humanity, basing it on the controversial 2x1 Supreme Court ruling. The early release request, submitted by former prison guards Ramón Fernández and Abel Dupuy both who were convicted to a 25-year prison sentence in 2010, had been accepted by Emoris who was acting as a substitute Judge in Federal Courthouse 1. However, the repressors won’t be immediately released since the prosecutors appealed the decision. “This demonstrates that if the court doesn’t make a rapid decision in reversing the effects of the illegal ruling it made, the consequences of the 2x1 will still be in effect,” said lawyer Guadalupe Godoy.
