Wine critic’s winners

British wine critic Tim Atkin recently released his annual Argentina wine report — and two Mendoza Malbecs took the top accolade with 98 points (out of 100).

Calling Zuccardi’s Finca Piedra Infinita 2014 “elegant, refined and ethereal”, the Uco Valley-based winery notched up 11 wines scoring 94 points or more in Atkin’s 2017 report, a thrill for agronomist Sebastián Zuccardi and team. Price: 2,060 pesos.

Taking equal first place in this year’s report was Teho Malbec Tomal Vineyard 2014, La Consulta, produced by the brains and winemaking brawn behind Manos Negras, Zaha and Tinto Negro, Alejandro ‘El Colo’ Sejanovich and Jeff Mausbach. Price: 850 pesos.

Both are available from Ozono Drinks.
