Finance Secretary meets with US mediator Pollack in New York

Finance Secretary Luis Caputo will hold meetings today in New York with Court-appointed mediator Daniel Pollack amid ongoing negotiations between the national government and holdout representatives.

Argentina yesterday reached a new deal with a group of holdouts pursuing a United States class action lawsuit over defaulted debt,

Pollack said the agreement in principle “fits within the numerics” of Argentina’s offer earlier this month to pay US$6.5 billion to resolve various lawsuits by holders of defaulted bonds.

US Judge Thomas Griesa granted yesterday “vulture” funds Elliott and Aurelius an extra day to explain why orders that restricted the country from servicing its restructured debts should not be vacated after the US$6.5-billion offer to settle the dispute. Both now have until Friday to give their reasons.
