Tres Monos bar snags international Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award

The Palermo hotspot becomes the first South American establishment to earn the honor from The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy

A corner spot in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires has been recognized as the most hospitable bar in the world.

Tres Monos, a neon-filled watering hole with creative cocktails and a 1990’s-era soundtrack, has received a Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award from The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy. This is the first time a South American establishment has earned the distinction since the Academy began handing out its accolades in 2012.

Six hundred and fifty anonymous industry experts voted on the winner. Tres Monos, which takes its name from a Japanese proverb, was ranked the 27th best bar in the world in 2022.

“Since its opening in 2019, we have seen Tres Monos climb up the list of The World’s 50 Best Bars,” said Wiliam Drew, director of content for the Academy, in a press release.

“Whilst the drinks themselves are an irrefutable demonstration of Argentinian excellence and innovation, it is the team’s punk-rock approach to hospitality that has firmly established Tres Monos on the global stage,” he continued. “This is a hugely well-deserved win, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire Tres Monos team.”

Michter’s Art of Hospitality is one of a series of awards the academy will be unveiling ahead of the World’s 50 Best Bars of 2023. The award ceremony will take place in Singapore on October 17 — the first time the event has been held outside of Europe.

“Argentina and Latin America stand out for the hospitality of [their] people,” said Tres Monos’ co-founders, Charly Aguinsky and Sebastián Atienz.

“In Tres Monos, we believe hospitality is the most important thing in a bar,” they added. “People might forget what they had to drink, but they won’t forget how you made them feel. That was our primary goal when we opened: to make people feel welcomed in every situation.”

Tres Monos, which offers bartending courses in person and online through its website, is located on Guatemala 4899, at the corner of Thames. It’s open all week long, Sunday to Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Thursday to Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 a.m.
