'Blue' dollar plunges 24 cents to 13.28 pesos

The "blue" dollar today plunged 24 cents to close at 13.28 pesos in unerground houses, ámbito.com reported, following yesterday's five-cent fall which halted sharp hikes this week.

The illegal rate nevertheless increased 26 cents during the week, as speculation pushed the "blue" up amid new controls by the Central Bank and police officers. It reached 13.65 pesos on Wednesday, a five-month record high.

"Blue" dollar offer increased again Thursday through Friday, lowering the price. Private business demand for pesos to afford wage increases and mid-year bonus helped.

Meanwhile, the official rate ended half a cent up at 9.09 pesos in banks and foreign exchange agencies. The Central Bank bought 110 million dollars, totalling 340 million dollars in the week.

This way, the gap between the parallel dollar rate and the official rate stands at 46.1 percent, after reaching 50 percent on Wednesday.

In addition, the blue chip swap rate advanced 18 cents to 12.86 pesos and the stock exchange rate increased 27 cents at 12.81 pesos.
