Barrionuevo confirms Tuesday strike will go ahead

CGT 'Blue and White' leader Luis Barrionuevo has affirmed that industrial action planned for Tuesday will go ahead, with major opposition trade unions pledging to support a strike originally planned by transport syndicates.

"There is no possibility of the strike being lifted," the gastronomic chief told radio Mitre today, hitting out against the government which for Barrionuevo "has not given an answer to absolutely anything that we have brought up."

Asserting that the strike was "totally confirmed," the unionist repeated that "there is no prospect of [transport unions] unilaterally coming to an agreement and lifting the measure."

"The President [Cristina Fernández de Kirchner], and fundamentally her right-hand man, the Economy minister [Axel Kicillof], solves these issues. For three years we have brought list of demands to the government and we have not been answered," he added.

Claiming that the CFK administration has "pressured" business leaders to keep salary raises around 27 percent, Barrionuevo hit out against inflation and its effect on spending power.

"The inflation in the last three years has eaten up wages. We must recover them," he fired.
