Hillary Clinton to announce presidential bid on Sunday

Hillary Clinton is expected on Sunday to announce her intention to seek the Democratic presidential nomination through video and social media, a party official told reporters today.

Following the announcement, the former Secretary of State will travel to the key voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire, the source, who is close to Clinton, said.

"She's expected to make her intention to run known on Sunday," the source said.

This way, Clinton returns to the campaign trail seven years after losing the Democratic Party nomination in 2008 to Barack Obama.

Her nearest likely rivals for the Democratic nomination are former Maryland governor Martin O'Malley and Jim Webb, the former US senator from Virginia.

Only two percent of Americans say they have never heard of her, according to a Gallup poll last month, a level of name recognition exceeding that of Vice President Joe Biden, a name unknown to a tenth of Americans.
