Randazzo asks transport unions to lift strike

Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo speaks during the announcement of the renewal of La Trocha station of the Roca railway, in Mercedes.

Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo has asked transport unions to lift the March 31st strike, arguing “it is not the best way” to protest and urging them to “rethink” the measure.

“I strongly ask them to rethink [the strike], there’s time until Tuesday and I don’t think a general transport strike is the best way to go, because it would affect thousands of workers,” Randazzo said during the announcement of the renewal of La Trocha station of the Roca railway, in Mercedes.

Randazzo said the strike is “unbelievable” and stated it is “remarkable that unions call for a general strike in demand of an income tax reform, which favors the rich.”

“The strike will be prejudicial to workers that earn 30 percent of these unionist’s salaries,” he added, while stressing “there are other mechanisms to protest.”

“President Cristina Kirchner has made every effort to keep employment. I ask them [unionists] to rethink the strike.” Randazzo then highlighted the government has reached a “historic level of investment in transportation, both with bus tariff subsidies and with railway investment.”
