Man who killed himself suspected of murdering Daiana García

Investigators working on the crime of Daiana Ayelén García, a 19-year-old young woman who was found dead yesterday in the Buenos Aires Southern locality of Lavallol, were trying to determine if a 38-year-old man who killed himself on the day that the woman went missing was involved in her death.

Sources of the investigation explained that the man, identified as Juan Manuel Fígola, worked in a logistics company in Palermo neighbourhood, near the place where Daiana told her friends she had a job interview on Friday 13, when she was last seen.

Daiana’s body was found in a white burlag bag that the investigators could trace back to the firm in Palermo, apparently it had some sort of company slogan printed on it.

The firm’s employees told the police that a co-worker had committed suicide on Saturday 14 around 6 pm after throwing himself in front of a train at the Gregorio Laferrere station in La Matanza.

Local media reported that before killing himself, Fígola wrote an SMS to his father: “I screwd up,” he said.

Daiana lived in La Paternal, a Buenos Aires city neighbourhood, with her family. The last time she was seen alive was before she headed to a job interview on Friday evening, but she never came back.

Her half-naked body was found inside the burlag bag and with a sock in her mouth in an open field yesterday.
