LAN surprise strike lifted

The surprise LAN strike was finally lifted at 4 pm today, after the government ordered mandatory conciliation at 7 am.

The flights from and to Aeroparque and Ezeiza Buenos Aires airports were cancelled following the surprise strike launched at midnight by the company’s employees.

The walk out was called due to a series of layoffs among LAN employees who were accused of “serious misconduct,” local media reported.

The workers denounced a “systematic attack on labour conditions” in a press release and said that the airline wants “the staff to work as an outsourced company, serving other companies, particularly foreign TAM.”

LAN Argentina had apologised for the inconvenience in a statement on its website and offered affected passengers to change their tickets, to change destinations or to return tickets issued for today free of charge.
