Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro has accused US Vicepresident Joe Biden of coup-mongering after he allegedly announced Maduro’s imminent “overthrow” to other governments in the region.

“The imperial power of the North has entered a dangerous stage of desperation,” Maduro said addressing Venezuelans in a broadcasted message. “They have talked to governments in the continent to announce the overthrow of my government. I accuse US Vicepresident Joe Biden. He has personally spoken with presidents and prime ministers,” he stated.

The Venezuelan head of State urged the “patriotic” people and military to “defend” the country from a “vicious coup d’Etat” by the “international right.”

“The people needs to be prepared to rescue this Democracy, its Constitution and its revolution,” Maduro warned. “A plan for a vicious coup d’Etat in Venezuela has been set in motion and we must join popular forces, military forces,” he added.

“I tell coup-mongers, interventionists, imperialists, to leave Venezuela alone, to let Venezuela live in peace,” Maduro said.
