US dollar jumps half a cent, Central Bank sells US$30m

The US dollar closed up half a cent to 8.605 pesos in Buenos Aires City banks and foreign exchange offices. It has climbed 3 cents in the first working week of the year, despite the efforts of the Central Bank, which sold US$30 million today to control climbs.

Meanwhile, the informal rate of the US currency, the so called "blue" dollar, was up two cents to 13.77 pesos in the City's underground foreign exchange house.

The gap between the official and informal rates stands at 60 percent.

The blue-chip dollar lost 10 cents in trading, falling to 12.13 pesos, while the stock market rate dropped for the first time this week, losing 28 cents to sell at 12.35 pesos.
