Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich said that the government’s meeting with representatives of various trade unions in the transport sector yesterday was “positive,” despite unionists considering possible strikes after no deal was reached.

“The meeting with transport unions was positive. Every dialogue is positive,” Capitanich said in his daily press briefing at the government house. “Representatives of the transport trade unions have raised concerns about working conditions and income taxes. They have submitted a proposal to the Labour Ministry,” he explained.

The chief of ministers pointed out that transport workers are among the highest-paid in the country and also stressed the importance of state’s subsidies in them. “The state acts as a dynamic agent in the sector,” he added.

“We are always open for dialogue because we seek consensus to solve this issues,” Capitanich added.

Juan Carlos Schmid, the general secretary of the Dredging and Beacon union, explained on leaving the Work Ministry yesterday that "all transport unions will be called this Thursday to the Tramways Union" building to determine the course of action that will be taken.
