Argentina crushes Senegal 81-46 in FIBA WC group B match
Argentina’s national basketball national team booked their place in the FIBA World Cup last-16 with a convincing win over Senegal, prevailing 81-46 in a one-sided contest in Spain.
After defeat against Croatia and an uncomfortable victory over the Phillippines, Julio Lamas' charges were much-improved as they taught the Africans, who had been one of the surprises of the tournament so far with two victories, a lesson in Seville's Palacio de Deportes.
Luis Scola was again the star of the show, picking up 22 points and 14 rebounds in match where Argentina's defensive solidity and tactical nous led them to victory.
The physical Senegal team were restricted to just 48 points over the course of the game, with Gorgui Deng top scoring having recorded 11 points and eight rebounds.
The third win in four World Cup matches means that Argentina cemented their qualification as one of the three top teams in Group B. The side as a result will avoid hosts Spain in the last-16, and could still claim top spot with victory over Greece on Thursday.
