Discussion of immigration policies launched
After the controversy sparked by Security Secretary Sergio Berni’s remarks on foreigners who “come to Argentina to commit crimes”, the government has decided to launch a “round table” with NGOs to discuss immigration policies.
The Executive has established the “Immigration Dialogue Round Table” as an “institutionalized forum for dialogue” that seeks to “improve the governability of migration policies and to diagnose and assess the policies already implemented”, according to the Official Gazette.
Members of civil society are invited to join the discussion of migration public policies in an “inclusive, transparent and democratic” context.
Last week, Secretary Berni had called for “judicial tools” to expell foreigners “who only come to Argentina to commit crimes.”
