Maxi, Gago called up by Martino
Argentina national team coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino called up Newell’s Old Boys’ Maximiliano Rodríguez and Boca Juniors’ Fernando Gago to be part of the squad that will face Germany on Wednesday in a rematch of the World Cup 2014 final.
AFA officially announced the inclusion of both players for the friendly that will be held in Düsseldorf.
Rodríguez and Gago will travel tomorrow along with the trainer and his coaching staff to join the rest of the squad in Germany.
Boca Juniors goalkeeper Agustín Orión will be the only player from the Argentine World Cup squad that was not included in the list.
The 22 players are: goalkeeper: Sergio Romero and Mariano Andújar; defenders: Hugo Campagnaro, Federico Fernández, Pablo Zabaleta, Martín Demichelis, Marcos Rojo, Ezequiel Garay and José María Basanta; midfielders: Javier Mascherano, Ángel Di María, Augusto Fernández, Ricardo Álvarez, Lucas Biglia, Enzo Pérez, Gago and Rodríguez; forwards: Lionel Messi, Rodrigo Palacio, Gonzalo Higuaín, Sergio Agüero and Ezequiel Lavezzi.
The friendly in Düsseldorf on September 3 is the first match for both teams since the July 13 final at Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, when Mario Götze scored in extra time to give Germany its fourth World Cup title.
