US Army's Fort Lee clears reported 'active shooter incident'
Following a report of an “active shooter incident” earlier today in US Fort Lee Army base in King George County, Virginia, the authorities cleared the incident through its Facebook verified account saying a female soldier "turned the weapon on herself and fired one shot, injuring herself."
"Early reports indicate the Soldier turned the weapon on herself and fired one shot, injuring herself. The Soldier was transported Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. Her condition is not known at this time," the Facebook post read.
No other injured were reported, the military confirmed.
"Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are on scene and investigating the incident," the statement added.
With a short message on its social media accounts, the military authorities had advised this morning “all personnel to enact active shooter protocols immediately” announcing that the base remained on lockdown.
The incident was reported at the base's Combined Arms Support Command Headquarters, Building 5020.
