US dollar unchanged, 'blue' dollar jumps to 13.98 pesos

Following a nine-cent climb last week, in a market shaken by the government’s plan to restructure the external debt, the US dollar closed stable at 8.42 pesos today in Buenos Aires city banks and foreign exchange offices.

Grain exporters, which account for a third of Argentina’s exports, sold off u$s 252 millions last week.

The market is pushed by a low offer on the one hand, caused by the end of the grain harvest, and a sustained demand for the US currency on the other hand.

In the meantime, the informal rate jumped 10 cents to 13.98 pesos today, breaking a new record and following massive growth last week, when the so-called “blue” dollar traded at 13.95 pesos.

The blue-chip swap rate advanced to 12.40 pesos today, while the stock exchange rate went up to 13.30 pesos.
