Borges y Yo

Teatro El Búho ( Tacuarí 215, 4342-0335, Saturdays, 6.30pm. Tickets: $80 ($50 students and seniors) at the venue.

Jorge Francisco Isidoro Luis Borges may not have won the Nobel Prize but he has been worshipped and admired more than other, not so worthy winners. In fact this is so, both, in his country and abroad.

This is quite good tribute paid in theatre, which features an unforgetable song and poetry show taking place every Saturday in the early evening.

The play is a memorable combination of poems, prose writings of different literary genres — such as stories, philosophy, essays, novels, milongas, tangos and more. El Aleph, Fundación mítica de Buenos Aires, Vuelvo al Sur, Arte poética, El tango, Milonga del Trovador, Jacinto Chiclana, are admirably spoken and beautifully sung by the elegant Michelangelo Tarditti — who was born in the province of La Pampa but is a resident in Rome.

Tarditti is reliably backed by a trio who plays music by Astor Piazzolla. Jorge Mercury — who like Tarditti and the poet has uncannily captured the spirit of Buenos Aires — makes excellent arrangements.
