Messi on target as Suárez debuts for Barcelona

Argentina captain Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Barcelona in a convincing 6-0 win over Mexican club León, in a friendly match which marked Luis Suárez's first match for his new club.

Uruguayan striker Suárez was cleared to play in the Joan Gamper trophy despite a four-month suspension handed down by FIFA for biting an opponent during the World Cup, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) reversed the ruling of the world football governing body that blocked the player from any type of sporting activity.

Suárez received a rousing ovation from the Camp Nou faithful on entering play in the 76th minute, coming on as a late substitute for Rafinha.

Earlier, Barcelona had Messi to thank as the Argentine star opened the scoring in the second minute of play. Two further goals, both from Brazil's Neymar, sent León into half-time 3-0 down in the traditional pre-season friendly tournament.

Teenage prospect Munir further widened the lead with two goals in the second half, and the rout was completed in the final minutes through another youngster, Sandro Ramírez, who hit Barcelona's sixth of the evening against the beleaguered visitors.
