CFK: Modern trains mean new age for railways

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner presented the unveiling of eight train formations that will be utilised on the suburban Sarmiento line in Buenos Aires, highlighting that the Mitre service would be the next to receive modern wagons.

The head of state was accompanied by Transport minister Florencio Randazzo at the Port of Buenos Aires today as she received the latest Chinese-built locomotives and carriages. The formations are destined for service on the Sarmiento, which runs from Once station in the City and serves the western zone of the capital and Greater Buenos Aires.

"In September we will have all the Sarmiento formation on the tracks," CFK affirmed during the act, adding that "some of the formations for the Mitre are already packed up to go in China."

For the president, the introduction of modern trains marked "a new age" in the railway system. "We are designing a federalised country", she added, referring to the state management of Aerolíneas Argentinas and investment in trains as tools to connect the country.
