City gov't backs down over Subway fare increase

Mauricio Macri's City government has reversed its decision to increase fares on the Buenos Aires Subway system, which had been strongly criticised by both workers and members of the opposition in the capital.

Under plans outlined earlier this week, the fare for a single trip on the network would have risen from 4.50 to 6 pesos, increasing prices for the second time in 2014. The decision comes after workers on the Subway agreed to strike for two hours tomorrow, between 5 and 7pm.
