Banks paralysed nationwide due to strike
Banks nationwide will not be open to the public today due to a 24-hour strike launched in protest against the income tax floor.
The Bank Association (AB) headed by Sergio Palazzo confirmed the walk-out for today. Workers are to attend to their place of work which will not be open to the public.
The union spokesperson Eduardo Berrozpe said they have decided to strike against the “erosion in disposable income caused by the arbitrary income tax”.
Last-minute talks between unions and bank owners failed yesterday. The workers demand a raise in the income tax floor and its scales.
“The collective wage talks and the agreed salary increase has not been honoured due to the lack of answers to our claims,” Palazzo said.
This is the third nationwide bank workers strike since May.
