La Mississippi

La Mississippi (La Trastienda Club, Balcarce 460). 4342-7650. 9pm. Tickets: from $100 to $350 from Tu Entrada and at the venue.

La Mississippi are one of Argentina’s oldest and most prestigious blues bands, both in terms of music and the number of followers they attract. They have played all across Argentina and neighbouring countries as well as Spain and Colombia. Credits: curtain raisers for John Mayal, B.B. King, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Robben Ford, and no less than Eric Clapton at his River Plate arena gig in 2001. La Mississippi was formed in Florencio Varela, in the southern outskirts of BA. Their recording début was in 1993 with Mbugi (featuring the hit Café Madrid).

In all, they have recorded 12 albums, nine of them with their own material, and one featuring blues classics. Tonight they will revisit old hits and play new songs.
