Maradona on Sabella’s succession: ‘I would let Menotti manage'
International football star Diego Maradona said today former Argentine coach Luis Menotti is the perfect candidate to fill the spot left by Alejandro Sabella in the Albiceleste, as he is the one person who can “interpret exactly the kind of football Argentines like.”
Diego, who was left out of the 1978 World Cup Argentine squad by Menotti, commented the coach should be given a “general project in AFA” to handle, meaning he should manage “everything.”
“I would let Menotti handle everything. He is the one who can interpret exactly the kind of football we Argentines like,” Maradona told reporters today.
This is the second time Diego recommends Menotti for Albiceleste coach after Sabella decided not to renew his contract with the national team, following the second position achieved in the Brazil World Cup 2014.
With the comment, Maradona also aims at Argentine FA’s football manager and former coach Carlos Bilardo, who coached Diego in the 1986 and 1990 World Cups, but with whom he is currently at odds.
