BA province gov't says the strike is 'out of context'
BA Province Cabinet Chief Alberto Pérez described the teachers’ strike in demand of wage raise as “out of context”. He stressed that the salary increase agreed last April has not yet been outpaced by inflation.
“The over 30% raise given in March has not been outpaced by the National Statistics and Census Institute’s (Indec) inflation rate nor by any of private inflation estimates,” the official said.
Pérez condemned the teacher’s decision to go on strike saying it “harms students from public schools in several provinces” and their families.
“The provincial government will continue its calls for dialogue but with the students inside the classrooms,” he said and urged teachers to “work side by side with the government to move in the same direction.”
