Argentina misses Ginóbili, loses Three Nations Cup to Brazil
The Argentine basketball team lost today 68-59 to locals Brazil in the Three Nations Cup final match in Río de Janeiro, an exhibition tournament that serves as preparation before the 2014 Spain World Cup.
Argentina’s two biggest stars missed the game. NBA player and Argentine captain Luis Scola did not take part in the Argentine side, as he remained in Buenos Aires to continue his physical training, while Manuel Ginóbili informed last week he will not be able to play for the Albiceleste due to an injury during the last NBA finals.
After two even quarters, Brazil took a 10 point lead during the third chapter, but Argentina recovered and shortened the distance to only one point, leveling the score 49-48 for the local team.
Brazil made the difference in the last quarter, regaining a wide lead and closing the game 68-59.
Argentina and Brazil will face each other again next week in Tecnópolis, during the re-match of the Three Nations Cup. In Brazil’s edition, Angola was invited to play the tournament, while Mexico will replace the African side in Argentina’s edition.
