The European Union (EU) has recognized Argentina as one of the few countries able to export high-quality beef under the “feed-lot quota” to the European market, a press release from the Foreign Ministry informed today.

The recognition means Argentina will export 48,200 tons of tariff-free feed-lot produced beef to the EU, a benefit only shared with the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Uruguay.

“Besides the well-known Hilton quota, made for grass-feed beef, Argentina now earned the possibility to participate in the feed-lot quota, increasing production opportunities for the agricultural sector,” the Ministry explained.

“This is the result of Argentina’s active policies towards the matter, through Argentine representation in the European Union, Brussels Agricultural Council, and also direct contact between Agricultural Ministry representatives and their European counterparts,” the press release concludes.
