Delays in issuing US visas due to technical problems
Travellers applying for an US visa worldwide have been unable to complete their request due to a global system failure at the US Department of State. Visas are not being delivered until the problem is solved.
The inconveniences began a week ago when the State Department's global database for issuing travel documents crashed, preventing diplomatic offices to deliver visas.
“The problem is global and it is not related to any country, citizenship or visa category specifically,” the US Consulate in Buenos Aires said on its website. “We are unable to accelerate the visa process, not even in case of an emergency”.
Sources in the US Consulate in Buenos Aires said they are not taking any interviews for visa applications today, as requested by the US Department of State, but expressed optimism that the problem will be solved soon.
“The Department of State continues to work to restore our visa system to full functionality. We anticipate it will take weeks to resume full visa processing capacity. We continue to prioritize immigrant visas, including adoption cases,” read a statement on the Department of State website.
