Messi: ‘It’s a very sad day for Argentina and for me’
Argentine national and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has sent his condolences to Julio Grondona’s family, following the decease of the Argentine Football Association president.
“It is a very sad day for football, for Argentina and for me. Our AFA president, Julio Grondona, has left us. I want to send my condolences and a big hug to all his family and friends,” Messi wrote in his Facebook account.
Grondona played a mayor role in making Messi play for Argentina when the young star was offered to defend the Spanish colors.
The head of AFA organized a match against Paraguay in the neighborhood of Caballito to enable Lio to make his Albiceleste debut. Messi then played his first match for the under-20 national team, scored a goal and was able to reject the pressure of playing for the Spaniards.
