The Deputy Governor of Buenos Aires province Gabriel Mariotto revealed details of his conversation with Pope Francis during a private audience at the Vatican, in which they discussed Argentina’s legal battle with holdout creditors in New York. “[Francis] said Griesa is further right than right-wing Republicans’,” Mariotto said.

“I spoke with Pope Francis about Judge [Thomas] Griesa. He said that Griesa is further right than right-wing Republicans and that he wants to ruin Argentine debt restructuring,” the Deputy Governor said during a radio interview.

The former head of Comfer Broadcasting Watchdog said the Pope defended the government’s current strategy against the speculative funds saying “what Argentina is doing is very good”.
