Boca out of Argentine Cup in nightmare debut
Second division Huracán beat Boca Juniors today 2-0 in San Juan and qualified for the last 16 round of the Argentine Cup. This was Boca’s first match after Juan Román Riquelme left the club and signed for Argentinos.
Boca showed initiative during the first half but could not generate a clear goal chance in the entire match, although ball possession favored the La Rivera side 60 to 40 percent.
Huracán forward Abila opened the score at 56 minutes after outrunning Boca’s two stoppers Cata Díaz and Forlín, following a long pass from centre field and shooting just inside the box before goalkeeper Orion’s late attempt to mark the attacker.
Mancinelli stretched the score 10 minutes later with a header from inside the box, having previously lost Cata Diaz’s mark. With this play Boca insisted with the problems exhibited last season with defending centers into the area.
Orion then left the field and was replaced by Trípodi because of a shoulder injury, just one week before the start of the Torneo Transición. Orion's injury adds to defender Emanuel Insúa's.
During injury time, Boca’s new defender Grana saw a red card and left the xeneize with 10 men.
"We had poor defensive and attacking efficiency," summarized Boca coach Carlos Bianchi after the match.
