Police search for hit-and-run taxi driver
A 21-year-old woman from Neuquén province died after being hit and dragged by 30 meters and abandoned by a taxi driver while crossing the street in front of Aeroparque airport.
The victim, identified as Michelle Tamara Álvarez, was hit on July 16 at 11.55 p.m. but the case was made public today. Accompanied with a friend, she had crossed from the airport to the riverside promenade as she waited to board a flight to Zapala, in Neuquén on the morning.
The authorities are looking for any information that could lead to the taxi driver. Saavedra-Núñez Prosecutors office is in charge of the case.
Michelle’s father, Claudio, said that unlike her daughter, her friend was able to “see the car’s lights and take a step back”.
The young woman was studying to become a dentist in La Plata City and was travelling back to Neuquén for a week with her family. Her father explained she had decided to spend the night in Aeroparque and fly on the morning for “security reasons”.
