The New Renault Kangoo, which is manufactured at the Santa Isabel plant in Córdoba, underwent a major redesign process in 2013, but has retained the main attributes that led it to dominate the market all these years: comfort, practicality and quality.

The sporty and adventurous top of the range version I drove, the Kangoo Sportway, has the touch of elegance that gives the car a new brand identity, inviting the driver to rediscover the Kangoo both outside and inside. This renovation provides a fresh and attractive look to a car that has triumphed in terms of comfort and functionality.

The family utility segment in Argentina has three clear figureheads: the Peugeot Partner and the Citroën Berlingo on the one hand, and on the other, the Renault Kangoo. Renault’s model has been a natural leader within the segment during of the years, and has been able to retain the number one podium in sales and public loyalty.

Its continued success has been based on simple yet desirable attributes: reliability, resale value and versatility.

All functionality on the exterior is reflected within: the interior features plentiful space, light and amplitude for all passengers.

The design of the front has been modified to bring about a new Renault brand identity, creating an attractive look that makes the car much more remarkable on top of its excellent spaciousness and comfort.

Despite the passage of time, the Kangoo has maintained its stylish and friendly look, creating the natural heir to the beloved station wagon, which no longer reigns on our highways after decades of doing so.

Accessibility is another plus, with its side and rear doors and large surface area available inside when the seats are folded (1,830 mm), making it ideal for all weekend trips, enjoying the city or commuting to work.

Inside we find functionality above everything else. In the Kangoo, everything points to practicality and ease of use. Still, there are abundant plastic material and steel combinations that achieve a youthful and fun environment. The new upholstery gives the interior a modern style, which complements and enhances all other details, making the ride a very pleasant experience.

The driving position is very utilitarian, while the folding rear seats increase the volume of the cargo area to 600/2600dm3 — making the Kangoo flexible for various needs. Furthermore, it can withstand up to 500kg. Comfort and convenience are available for up to five passengers, and there is plenty of room for them to carry whatever they want. The Renault Kangoo has room for everyone and everything.

The dashboard’s renovation is one of the changes that have redefined the car’s personality and internal style.

Comfort features

The car’s comfort features, (remember that the Sportway is more expensive) include airbags for the driver and front passenger, automatic and central locking with remote command, power steering, command satellite radio and rearview mirrors. Also included are electric windows, an inferior engine guard (a detail that is not insignificant on our highways), front and rear fog lamps, alloy wheels and AM/FM radio, CD and MP3. The sound system consists of four 15-watt speakers. The Renault Kangoo Sportway version is equipped with a K4M petrol engine that is transversely fixed with four multi-point injection cylinders. It displaces 1.6 litres with 16 valves, allowing for 95 HP at 5,000 rpm and 13.2 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. The top speed is 160kmph, while the car accelerates from zero to 100kmph in just 14.7 seconds. Its consumption in litres per 100 kilometres at 90 kmph clocks in at six litres, rising to 8.6 litres at 120 kmph and 10.8 litres in the city.

The Kangoo responds rationally to the driver’s commands, featuring Independent MacPherson front suspension. The turn radius is completely normal and logical, responding well to directional changes. Due to its height, shape and size, it is sensitive to crosswinds, but not significantly.

The car comes with Saleya alloy rims with 175/70 R14 tires. The Kangoo has adhered to all safety norms in 2014 and now comes with ABS and dual front airbags on all versions.

Since arriving in the country in 1998, the Renault Kangoo has revolutionized the world of utilitarian vehicles due to its friendliness, innovation and style. Thanks to its versatility of use, the Renault Kangoo is the leader in the market.
