Argentine Mayer beats Ferrer in Hamburg, claims first ATP title
Argentine tennis player Leonardo Mayer beat top seeded Spain’s David Ferrer 6-7(3) 6-1 7-6(4) and won his first ATP title in the Hamburg Open final today.
With this result, the 46th-ranked Mayer is to move up to number 30 in the ATP World raking.
This was the first ATP 500-level final for Mayer, who beat the seventh-ranked Ferrer –who was bidding for his 22nd.
Born in Corrientes province, Mayer could now be considered to play for Argentina in the Davis Cup in September.
