Mayer to play ATP Hamburg final against David Ferrer
Argentine tennis player Leonardo Mayer beat German Philip Kohlschreiber 7-5, 6-4 and qualified to the ATP 500 Hamburg final.
Mayer, ranked 46 in the ATP, will fight for his first ATP title against Spaniard David Ferrer, 7th in the world and 1st seed in the tournament.
“I managed to play well the decisive points,” the Corrientes born player told reporters after the match.
“I liked the way I served today. I’m very happy with what I’ve done,” he added.
With this result, Mayer would potentially move up to number 30 in the ATP World ranking, and could be considered to play for Argentina in the upcoming Davis Cup match versus Israel in September.
The ATP Hamburg 500 is played on clay and distributes 1.2 million Euros in prizes.
