Argentine team thanks fans for their support
After the presidential welcome at their arrival back from Brazil, the players and coach of the national World Cup team thanked the warm welcome of the thousands of fan that celebrated their performance in Ezeiza airport and in the streets of Buenos Aires city.
“The grattitude that the 40 million Argentines have for the team is the same we all have,” Coach Alejandro Sabella said, speaking after President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s remarks. “As coach, I am not above the players, I am a part of this group,” he added.
Sabella pointed out that beyond the results, the national squad managed to excite Argentineans by “leaving everything in each play” and praised the team effort, saying being a team player is much more important than any individual play.
Argentine forward Lionel Messi also expressed his grattitude to the fans and said that despite losing in the match against Germany the team had brought joy to the country just by playing the final. “We left [Argentina] amid doubts by the people and journalists and we built an amazing team which took us to the last match,” he said.
Midfielder Javier Mascherano agreed with Messi. “We left [Argentina] in doubt but we came back full of certainties,” he said. “We would have loved to bring the Cup but I think we showed people many values. I wish we have set a path to follow,” added one of the main players of the Albiceleste during this World Cup.
