CFK, fans welcome World Cup national team in Ezeiza
The national team landed in Buenos Aires minutes before 11 a.m. at Ezeiza airport and were welcomed by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner at the AFA (Argentine Football Association) facility in Ezeiza.
They were expected to head to Buenos Aires city to meet the fans that awaited at the Obelisc but a late minute press release by AFA said the team was to stay in Ezeiza, for a private lunch with their families.
"Given the traffic jam in highways which can predict an unusual traffic flow in the city [...] the authorities have advised the team to refrain from going to the Obelisc," AFA said. The players left Río de Janeiro this morning in an Aerolíneas Argentinas plane tainted with a sign that read “Thank you Argentina” and photos of the players.
Once they had landed in Ezeiza Airport, the first to come out from the plane were AFA President Humberto Grondona, Coach Alejandro Sabella and the technical team, followed by the players.
The squad then went to meet with the President at the AFA facility, escorted by thousand of fans that gathered at the airport to greet the team.
